Burcott Mill is ideally located in a tranquil countryside setting, with cosy country pubs and beautiful walks and treks. It is within two miles of the city of Wells which is full of magnificent architecture and sites of historic interest. Wells Cathedral
Built in 1180, this striking gothic styled cathedral dominates the city of Wells, England's smallest city. Its magnificent West Facade with intricate carved figure statues, this cathedral is a must-see for any visitor to the area.
Opening Times: Apr-Sep : 7am - 7pm ; Oct-Mar: 7am - 6pm. Admission: Free but donations are appreciated

Bishop's Palace
Protected by high defensive walls, a moat and gatehouse with drawbridge and portcullis, the palace has been home to the Bishop of Bath and Wells for 800 Years. Visitors can see the private chapel, the ruined Great Hall and walk in the 14 acres of gardens.

Vicars' Close
Vicars' Close, adjacent to the cathedral is the oldest continuously inhabited medieval street in Europe. It was started in 1348 to provide 42 bachelor dwellings for the "Vicars' Choral" - the men of the choir. Being a public area, visitors are free to walk this medieval street. Each house originally contained two rooms (one-up, one-down), linked by a rear turret.

Wells Market
The Market Place lies at the heart of the city and is flanked by historic buildings including the Town Hall, built in 1779. Traditional open-air markets take place here every Wednesday and Saturday, where over 50 stall holders provide a wide variety of local products from food to jewellery and artwork.

Wookey Hole
This popular and established attraction now offers many family entertainments such as circus shows and traditional children's amusements to complement the original attraction - the underground caves.

Burcott Mill
Surely you didn't think we would list local attractions without mentioning our very own working Victorian flour mill! Take the tour and observe high quality organic flour being made, just as it was in the 18th century. Afterwards, enjoy tasting cakes and scones made from the flour in the tea-room.

Millstream Forge Studios

The Burcott Inn
Wonderful country pub offering good food at lunch times and evenings. Located directly opposite, an ideal place to enjoy an evening meal, after a busy day exploring the area

Wells and Mendip Museum
Housed in a Tudor building close to the cathedral, the museum holds exhibits that illustrate the history, archaeology, geology and wildlife of the Wells and Mendip Hills area.

Peat Moors Visitor Centre, Westhay

Abbot's Fish House, Meare
This 14th Century building was originally used to salt and store fish for the monks at Glastonbury Abbey
