Burcott Mill is one of the few remaining examples of a Victorian water-powered flourmill in operation today.
At weekends, during the spring and summer months, it is open to the public as a working museum to witness the flour
being produced as it was in the 18th century.
A written guide is available, which will take you back through the centuries to when water power was king.
On the tour you will:
UNCOVER how the mill harnesses the latent power of the River Axe to drive the mighty mill-stones
EXPERIENCE the sound and awesome power of the water-wheel
DISCOVER how Victorian craftsmen fashioned the great gears that drive the mill-stones
OBSERVE the flour being created, follow the path of the organic wheat grain from grainsack to
hand-stamped flour bags
MEET the miller at the end of the tour who will happily answer any of your questions
TASTE bread made from the different types of flour milled at Burcott.
Once you have completed the mill tour, you are welcome to relax in our tea-room where there is a scrumptious selection
of homemade scones, cakes and cream teas - many of which are made from Burcott Mill flour.
For children, we have an enclosed play area built in wood to the highest ROSPA safety standards
and set on a carpet of bark. It has monkey bars, a rope net, crawling board, crow's nest
platform, a swing and a slide. For the under 5's we have a large wooden playhouse and a baby swing.
There is ample free parking and disabled access to all areas except the upper floors of the mill.
